UKSA announces Strategic Partnership with SATCC

Over the last 20 years, many spa leaders have recognised the need to change the status quo. Where therapists were once taught they could not touch a cancer patient without causing harm, the SATCC have stepped in to develop training that supports every stage of a guest’s cancer journey. With properly accredited touch for cancer training, therapists can now access insurable accreditations and create safe treatments that empower both their clients and themselves.

This is underpinned by advances in medical thinking that show the true power of touch therapies in positively benefitting people at all stages of their cancer journey.

Until the formation of the SATCC there was no standard setting authority for oncology touch treatments and the rollout of training was too slow to keep pace with the need.

Sue Harmsworth MBE, Founder and SATCC Chairman, said, ‘The SATCC believes that the spa and wellbeing industry is in a powerful position to provide holistic support during cancer treatment and beyond. By partnering with the UKSA, we highlight just how valuable information on these services are, both for the client and the therapist and through our collaboration we increase the awareness, the knowledge and access to these valuable resources.’

The SATCC’s work follows a clear vision:

·       Setting Standards – a ‘gold standard’ for oncology touch treatments and training providers, providing a hallmark of approval that therapists, spas and spa goers can trust.

·       Connecting People & Places – a postcode search which covers the whole of the UK and Ireland, connecting anyone looking for a suitable spa or individual therapist trained in touch for cancer treatments.

·       Education & Shared Knowledge – a register of SATCC approved training providers, making it easy for therapists and spas

·       Sharing Research & Updates from the Medical Profession including:

o   New heat and melanin-rich skin guidelines

o   Expert advice on exercising through cancer

o   Updates on advanced touch for cancer treatments

·       Inspiring & Empowering the Community – a community built on shared knowledge and learning for all living with, through and beyond cancer.

·       List of accrediting bodies and insurers who comply with the SATCC Standards

UKSA General Manager, Bobby Griffiths, said,’ We are delighted to formalise this strategic partnership which benefits our members but most importantly, the guests that they treat. The UKSA is passionate about giving spas and therapists the latest information and guidance to assist their work and this partnership cements that message. The SATCC is doing incredible work and we are proud to be collaborating with them to give our members the most up to date information and guidance that will make a difference to many people’s lives.’
