ALL ABOUT
MICHAEL KAY

I started my career in Hospitality and Leisure some 30 years ago after being privileged enough to enjoy living, studying and working in far flung places such as Australia, Singapore, Spain, America and many more.

The first 10 years of my career were spent in hotels learning pretty much every operational aspect and eventually taking up General Management roles in various properties including Hotels, Health Clubs and Spas. A sidestep led to Director roles in the Self Catering Industry where I quickly came face to face with the Operational challenges of running two of the largest Self-Catering Holiday companies, located in one of the busiest honey pot destinations in the UK. The vast scale of operations enabled me to really get to grips stakeholder relationships and finely hone my operational and leadership skills.

Throughout the last 15 years I have been privileged to share my skills on several different development projects, including Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa, and latterly as Group Operations Director, I’ve enjoyed supporting colleagues at English Lakes Hotels, Resorts and Venues as we develop our sites, operations, culture and leadership team.

Our sector has to be hands down, one of the most exciting within the leisure and hospitality
industry.

So, I’m absolutely delighted to join others here on the Board of The UK Spa Association, where I hope my tenure will serve to shout out even more about the fantastic opportunities within this sector, including career development and personal wellbeing.
