The future of Health and Wellbeing is in our own hands

All the Christmas treats, all the chocolates, and let’s not to mention all the Prosecco and Champagne!

The beginning of the year is a fantastic opportunity to clean out and start again! It is a great time to cleanse your liver!

The most important purpose of a detox is to allow your liver to cleanse. Detoxing shouldn’t be just about weight loss.  Many people start the year complaining about weight gain and they think they must detox to lose weight. However, the real reason to start a detox is to clear out any toxins and rebalance the acids which may have accumulated during the Christmas break which cause inflammation. However, weight loss may well be a by-product of doing this!

Inflammation: What is Inflammation?

“Inflammation is your body's way of protecting itself from infection, illness, or injury. As part of the inflammatory response, your body increases its production of white blood cells, immune cells, and substances called cytokines that help fight infection.”

“Inflammation has been found to be an underlying cause in many diseases, making it a hot topic in the health media. But what do we really know about chronic inflammation and its effects on the body?”

“As scientists have searched for the mysteries behind the diseases most likely to afflict us, they have alighted on one factor common to virtually all of them: inflammation. Chronic inflammation, headlines now regularly state, has a role in a host of common and often deadly diseases, including Alzheimer’s, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and possibly even depression.”

“The link between inflammation and cancer can sometimes be direct. When too much stomach acid—a feature of the immune system that evolved to fight foodborne bacteria—creeps up the oesophagus, it causes inflammation and chronic heartburn. Extended exposure to this acid changes the nature of the cells lining the esophagus, increasing the risk of cancer.”

With this in mind here are 6 ways in which you could “kick-start” your Liver cleanse and rebalance your body’s acidity.

  1. Start the day with hot water and Lemon.

Lemon in the stomach turns to an alkaline. “Most of the foods we eat are acid. An adequate intake of water helps circulate oxygen and nutrients to cells more efficiently. Increasing your water intake can also improve mood and enhance concentration. Plus, chugging a glass of water with lemon first thing in the morning could set the tone for all-day healthy food choices”.

  1. Eat salad at every meal. “To restore health, a proper diet should hover around 80 percent alkalinityand 20 percent acidity. Salad is rich in alkaline foods that help promote the restoration of the body's pH balance. “Source reference: https://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-14773/a-simple-phbalancing-alkaline-salad.html
  1. Try alkaline water. Alkaline watercontains less acid than regular tap water. This means it is rich in alkalizing compounds, including calcium, silica, potassium, magnesium, and bicarbonate.
  1. Try some new eating styles. Intermittent fasting is an eating style where you eat within a specific time period, and fast the rest of the time allowing your liver to digest meals fully and allows the liver to rest. Intermittent fastingis also an effective way to lose weight, it's less a diet and could become more a lifestyle choice.
  1. Incorporate exercise into your daily routine. ExerciseHelps to alkalize your body. When you exercise you increase your breathing rate and circulation, and this helps to alkalize your body. ... Increased circulation also helps to remove more toxins from the cells, which are acidic, so they can be eliminated [making your body more alkaline].
  1. If in doubt go to spa! A new year is a great way to kick-start new habits. Including spa into your weekly routine can offer a huge range of benefits for the body and the mind. Using spa as a detox can be a great way to avoid inflammation long-term.

Final note

I like to use each and every opportunity to start fresh, it’s a new year and this is a great time to do this!

You may feel so happy with the results that a new year’s detox may be more of a monthly clean out and potentially be the start of your new wellness lifestyle.
