The UK Spa Association sat down with Andrew Hammond, Founder and Director of Spa Life UK and received the inside scoop on this very special, forthcoming anniversary conference.
The Spa Life International UK Convention 2019 will be hosted at the Hilton DoubleTree Coventry, and will be celebrating its 10th year with a few exciting changes.
Running over two days, with an average of 500 attendees, delegates will enjoy 1-2-1 product demonstrations and peer networking, showcases of the latest trends and innovations in the 50 strong brand EXPO arena, industry insights from a host of expert speakers, plus interactive education seminars and workshops to develop their skills.
Andrew, observes “Spa Life is a true celebration of excellence and innovation in the spa and now the wider wellness industry, but still with a unique focus on education and self-development. We know wellness begins with the people delivering it. So we strive to provide what our audience needs to create exceptional wellness experiences for their customers”.
“We help the Spa Life community grow their product offering, their networks and their knowledge and we pride ourselves on ensuring each attendee has actionable insights to take back and put into practise in their own business. And we pride ourselves on delivering all this in a relaxed, professional environment.”
Spa Life UK is the largest specialist spa and wellness convention of its kind in the UK and the fact that it is as popular as ever and celebrating its 10thyear, is testament to the fact that it is adaptable and willing to change to reflect market trends and demands.
Andrew continues “The one thing we have learned is that ‘wellness’ never stands still. When we started Spa Life UK it was just a one-day conference. We focussed exclusively on providing top-quality presentations to help spa managers learn how to improve their business and management skills. For this reason we targeted only senior spa professionals, so that they could network at peer level, and learn from each other as well as the speakers.
Back then we had around 60 delegates and 11 brand sponsors. It was an extremely lively and social event, and the concept went down a storm, because never before had the UK spa industry been afforded the opportunity to come together at such scale.
There was clearly an appetite from the spa business community for more, and year on year we listened to the feedback and grew our offering, to the point where we were a firm favourite in the UK spa industry event calendar.”
So what changes can Spa Life UK 2019 delegates expect from the 10thanniversary celebrations?
“For a start we’ve refreshed our brand image to mark our continued commitment to staying modern, original and relevant for our audience, who are all members of the staggering global $4.2trillion (and growing) wellness industry.
According to the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), the global wellness industry grew 12.8% from 2016 – 2018, and the global spa sector alone has a further projected growth of 6.4% by 2022*.
This is a huge opportunity for the Spa Life International community, and we know we need to be the vanguard of help for our audience, by creating new and innovative ways to bring everyone together, so that they can navigate and prosper from these incredible growth opportunities, and the inevitable change that comes with them.
As a result we also recognised we need to make some of our leaning sessions more interactive, and allow even more time for the social aspect of our event.
Speaking of the social side of the proceedings, we continue to celebrate excellence in our community with the Good Spa Guide Awards, held on the evening of our Gala dinner, and for some extra-special fun we will also be running one or two competitions both prior to and after the 2019 event.
Our two-day convention allows essential time out for attendees to work ontheir business rather than intheir business
Delegates can expect more brands, and access to the latest trends and products to keep them at the cutting edge. They will also have even more time for social networking and more opportunities to review the EXPO arena which is has been a popular request from both sides.
We will also have two very distinct themes for our conference programme next year, which will run alongside each other and include (i) Leadership and (ii) How to Monetise Wellness.
We have numerous speakers from outside of the industry who can provide a fresh perspective on the challenges facing the spa sector.
Plus we will also provide more interactive sessions so we can talk with, rather than just to, the audience. One example is an 'Ask the Expert' hot seat sessions where we plan to provide real solutions to everyday challenges faced by spa professionals in a fast paced and fun format.
We believe this approach to be right for the modern-day spa professional, because ultimately, by growing the individual, we grow the industry.”
