CBD Demystified

CBD

by Ramina B Kharileh of BB Lifestyle and Nick Osipczak of Raised Spirit

What exactly is CBD?

Chances are you’ve already heard the term CBD bantered around but if you haven’t, that will most certainly change in the very near future as CBD oil and products that contain CBD continue to become increasingly established as the world’s new alternative wonder drug.  Over the past few years, inspirational market innovators such as BB Lifestyle (formerly Fenix Cosmetics) with over 20 years specialist experience in dermatological grade skincare products, have been creating and manufacturing high-end skincare products containing CBD.

Not only has CBD oil been hailed as a potential treatment for sufferers of chronic diseases like multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and even cancer, it is also remarkable because it has very few side effects compared to similar prescription medications and over-the-counter remedies.

Yet despite the assertion by sceptics that CBD is the emperor's new clothes, there is a growing body of evidence to support the hype surrounding it as a genuine cure-all. A claim legitimised by numerous research projects currently going on around the world that are examining the properties of CBD under rigorous scientific conditions.

Let’s start by sorting the fact from the fiction:

The term CBD is short for cannabidiol, an abundant chemical found in the cannabis plant. However, unlike its notorious cousin Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) it doesn't contain the psychoactive ingredient that gets you stoned.

It is also the percentage of THC in the cannabis plant that determines whether the oil is classified as hemp or Marijuana.

Cannabis containing less than 0.2% THC is commonly and legally known as hemp, whereas the same plant species containing more than 0.2% THC, is automatically classified as Marijuana.

Topical CBD products allow the active ingredients to be absorbed through the skin so that they can interact with cells that are near the surface without ever entering the bloodstream.

CBD is used in high-end skin-care creams, gels, and serums and according to board-certified dermatologists, studies have shown that affecting the endocannabinoid system, such as with CBD, can help the skin look more radiant and youthful.  It is believed that CBD could smooth wrinkles, prevent acne and alleviate dry skin.  Some studies suggest CBD could slow down the visible signs of ageing.

Additionally, CBD has anti-inflammatory qualities that can be helpful for conditions such as muscular acne, psoriasis, and eczema. BB Lifestyle enhances its proprietary formula, HC56 Complex™ with CBD as well as other natural, organic, vegan and gluten free ingredients.

In celebration of 2020 BB Lifestyle is offering a 20% discount exclusively for UKSA members.  Please note, this one-time offer will expire on 31 January 2020.

If you haven’t already implemented CBD into your business, then you’d better start making plans to integrate it early 2020 or risk being left behind. CBD is not some fad that will come and go… the results are too powerful and the demand will always be too great. In fact, the CBD takeover is still at the early stages of growth, with one report estimating the European market could be worth as much as €123 billion by 2028.*

Just call me St. Nicholas, because I am about to give you everything you need to know about CBD in a nutshell. How do I know so much about CBD? Because CBD is a cannabinoid that is most abundantly found in cannabis plants. In my twenties I was a professional athlete who used cannabis for many years to help heal injuries, reduce inflammation, improve sleep, reduce pain and generally unwind. Now I run the hemp lifestyle brand Raised Spirit which became the first CBD Company in the UK to receive organic certification.

-          CBD (Cannabidiol) is best sourced from the flowers of the hemp plant. Although every part of the hemp plant, from stalk to seed can be used to produce many wonderful products, the flowers are the holy grail when it comes to containing CBD.

-          CBD will not get you high! That is what THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) does, and hemp plants contain only trace amounts of THC.

-          CBD is fat-soluble. CBD infused in coconut oil is the most powerful way to take CBD as it offers the greatest bio-availability due to the high healthy fat content in coconut oil.

-          CBD works with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is one of the largest neurotransmitter networks in the body and is responsible for maintaining homeostasis (balance). This is the reason why CBD has so many far-reaching benefits for so many conditions.

-          Don’t mess with nature! Stay away from isolates. When the full spectrum of cannabinoids are present, a synergistic healing effect can take place.

-          Always source organic. Lots of companies claim to be organic but don’t have the certificates to back it up! You only want to use CBD from hemp plants grown naturally – outdoors, under the sun, moon and stars. No chemicals.

-          Sweet spot. Each individual has their own unique tolerance to CBD, so play around with doses and timings to discover the optimum benefits.

-          Lab Certificates. Any CBD company worth their salt need to be able to supply lab results on demand showing their products contain what their labels say.

When people come to a spa, they want to relax. When people get a massage, they also want to relax and maybe even help an injury heal. There is simply no other single natural compound that can help facilitate such a deep sense of well-being as CBD.

CBD can be taken as drops, added to food and drink and applied topically, providing many ways to offer your clients CBD options throughout their visit – treatments, café, retail… you will improve their experience and significantly boost your profits.

Remember, the Spa industry is like any other when it comes to staying relevant… make sure you adapt to the latest demands and trends!

I have been using the Raised Spirit CBD Massage Oil for 2 months now - I love it, and so does my husband! Smells great and applies really easily. Definately helps with my lower back pains and gives me a much deeeeeeeeper sleep!
It's nice to support a local business, and reassuring to know all ingredients are organic and vegan-friendly. I have already put in an early request for their CBD Body Balm for my birthday present
