National Spa Week Success in 2017

This year we started promoting National Spa Week early on to ensure we got as many Spa’s as possible involved. From May onwards we had a regular presence via editorial and press advertisements and digital banners in many of the major trade titles including Professional Beauty, The Beauty Guild, European Spa, Spa Life, World Spa and Wellness and many more.

The National Spa Week Website www.spaweek.co.uk saw circa 3,000 unique users during the week and 480 spas registered to run promotions for the week – that’s an increase of 50% on 2016.

This year we really saw an increase in consumer news coverage with over 10.5 million opportunities to see in documented print and on-line coverage not to mention bucket loads of social media and even broadcast coverage. We were trending on Twitter again on the first day of the week.

Some of the national consumer press titles that covered National Spa Week included Harpers Bazaar, The Sun, The Gentleman’s Journal, The Sunday Telegraph, Yahoo Style Online, Look Magazine, Your County Wedding Magazines (19 Counties) Balance Magazine and lots of regional news titles too.

As well as sponsors Aromatherapy Associates and Groupon running offers and competitions we also had suppliers, La Beeby, CACI, Elemis, Simon Jersey, Gerrard International and The Training Room all offering trade promotions to support the week.

In the post week survey 20% of spas that took part thought that the campaign was effective in promoting spas in 2017 and 25% saw uplift in sales or enquiries as a result.

First time participant, Lisa Graham, Director of Trinity Park Holistics, Wakefield had this to say about NSW 2017.

"I thought the idea of National Spa Week was excellent. I did two radio interviews locally, mail shot my clients and sent out text messages. I would have done far more but I only found out about it on the Thursday before. Next year I will plan it far better from September.

We need more National exposure, as we all benefit from more clients understanding why they should come to Spa and for those who have never been to pluck up the courage to come along. I loved your website, I thought the content was fun but informative, and pitched to the right market!

 We offered a buy one get on free on all our aromatherapy massages. Clients had to buy and book a massage in the week to get another free to use before the end of November. We have had 20 new clients introduced to the business as a result of the event, some through word of mouth, but most as our clients booked friends or family in for the treatments. We are a new business, only opened 3 months ago, so every new client in the spa is vital to our development".

We believe that the best way to get the most out of National Spa Week for your spa in 2018 is to get involved sooner rather than later and leave lots of time to plan what you are going to do and promote it locally as early as possible.
