JEAN-PAUL BLISSETT

Jean-Paul Blissett, a qualified Architect, has worked in the high end Hospitality and Wellness field for over thirty years, gaining a wealth of experience and unparalleled expertise within the industry. He is the CEO of MELT Design Hub Ltd – The leading International Health and Leisure Specialist Design Consultancy.

A leading player in the Wellness industry, he often seeks to challenge the accepted norms by creating innovative yetcommercial and highly functional solutions. He passionately believes however that MELT is fundamentally a “people” oriented design company – what it creates must inevitably be transformational, effecting and influencing, whether consciously or not, all those who enter and interact with the spaces and environments created. All said and done this is what guests and clients of hospitality and health are “investing” in.

Currently creating new medical and health environments which challenge the accepted norms within these sectors. He is also committed to transferring his wealth of experience and renowned expertise in spa and wellness into the expanding “Wellness Living” and “Later Living” sectors, both in the public and private markets – creating innovative solutions for the integration of wellness across a broader landscape. MELT, amongst other things, are currently working on ten Later Living projects in the UK along with an urban day spa and a major leisure complex in Yorkshire.

Jean-Paul has worked with and acted as Consultant to the most renowned names in Spa & Wellness: Champneys, Grayshott Hall, Forest Mere, Talise, Thalgo, Espa, Elemis, Aveda, Samsara, Starwood / Sheraton and Steiner. He is responsible for the design of numerous Wellness developments around the world, including high profile award winning projects such as Six Senses Spa at Elounda Crete, the world renowned Chiva-Som in Thailand, One Spa at the Edinburgh Sheraton Grand and the Avira Wellness Community in Malaysia. At sea, he was at the forefront of developing spas on cruise ships, shaping the industry to where it is today, having created over 30 maritime spas.

Jean-Paul with his team, ensures that each development is designed to have its own special identity, relating to its market, location and climate, reflecting a sympathetic handling of styles and culture.

Design and innovation at MELT never succumbs to fads or gimmicks, believing instead in individual identity and longevity, which is borne out by the on-going trading success of such projects as; Chiva-Som (24 years), One Spa (18 years) and Y-Spa (6 years) which all continue to attract a high number of guests with high occupancy rates. Their pioneering work has set trends in the market place, with an impressive portfolio of successful projects and the legacy of concepts that others have often followed.

His operational and commercial experience extends to being a joint venture partner and investor with Molton Brown in developing the first true spa franchise concept targeted at the international Hotel industry and created Eforia, a spa brand for Hilton Hotels based on a modular and functionally driven approach that allows for the application of local design influences - now being rolled out world-wide. He has also been an investor and creative director for a German based spa equipment manufacturer.

Jean-Paul judges Design Awards, speaks regularly at Hotel & Spa Conferences and Events, where he is not afraid to be provocative in his ideas. As a newly elected Board Member of the UK Spa Association, he is looking forward to contributing his broad experience of design, operations and manufacture within spa to advise, promote and grow the industry.

The most recently completed projects, being the Gazelli “spa” in Knightsbridge, and “Cloud Twelve” a new cross generational health focused lifestyle club in Notting Hill, London, which have set new benchmarks in the wellness sector.

Educated in England and the Lebanon, his professional training includes the USA, UK and the Middle East.
