INFRARED DETOXIFICATION

Julia Leone, writing on behalf of the
UK Spa Association, discusses the benefits of Infrared Sauna for Detoxification

What is an Infrared Sauna

Infrared Sauna is a therapy for detoxification, healing and is also an alternative health option, which benefits the body in more natural and organic ways.

Because an infrared sauna heats the body from the inside out, infrared sauna detoxification not only eliminates chemicals and other toxins from the body but also helps ease soreness and allows the body and mind to fully relax.

The past 150 years have been a time of incredible progress in medicine, science and industry. Because of these advancements we now enjoy longer, more productive lives.

However, there are many who pay a tremendously high price for our modern lifestyle. The by-products of our chemical technology have resulted in ubiquitous contamination of our atmosphere, lakes, oceans and soil. Our natural environment is now permeated by a barrage of “unnatural” substances.

Many don’t realise we all harbour mutated cells and cancer-cells and could potentially have up to 100 million of these cells in our bodies at any given time. Whether one of these cells turns into a tumour or not is determined by your immune system’s ability to kill the cancerous cell before it multiplies and possibly becomes carcinogenic. In a healthy individual with a robust immune system, this process happens often and naturally.

It is only when the body is overwhelmed by heavy metals, hundreds of chemicals, chronic infections, fungus and parasites, and then exacerbated by nutritional deficiencies (which everyone has to a vary degrees), that you reach a point where your immune system is dealing with so many issues you may find yourself diagnosed with cancer when a tumour becomes visible on medical tests.

Near infrared sauna is proven to resolve the burdens to the immune system, and so can directly and indirectly help to prevent cancer as a result.

Unquestionably, many of these chemical sources have been in existence for centuries. However, today we are exposed to chemical concentrations far greater than were our ancestors.

Although the human mechanism is known to be accommodating, ecological alterations are now occurring at a faster rate than that at which our bodies are able to adapt. We are now faced with a situation where inadequacies or uncertainties centering around the manufacturing, use, storage, and disposal of toxic chemicals, have resulted in an overwhelming number of environmentally -induced illnesses, such as heavy metal toxicity.

Colour Therapy

The red bulbs used in near infrared sauna emit red, orange and yellow light, all of which provide stimulating colour therapy. These particular frequencies draw energy downward into the body (from your overworked brain) and assist with the digestive and eliminative organs. They also nourish the adrenal glands, liver and kidneys according to traditional colour therapies.

Benefits of Infrared Sauna

1.INCREASED METABOLISM

As your body increases sweat production to cool itself, your heart works harder to pump blood at a greater rate to boost circulation. This increase in your metabolism will burn calories.

  1. 2. MUSCLE PAIN RELIEF

The deep heat from infrared saunas help peripheral blood vessels to dilate, bringing relief and healing to muscle and soft tissue injuries.  Infrared heat also reduces soreness on nerve endings and muscle spasms as muscle joints and fibres are heated.

  1. 3. IMMUNE SYSTEM BOOST

Infrared heaters will raise your core body temperature, inducing an artificial fever. Fever is the body’s natural mechanism to strengthen and accelerate the immune response, as seen in the case of infection.

  1. 4. DETOXIFICATION

One of the biggest infrared sauna health benefits is its ability to increase your blood circulation and stimulate the sweat glands, releasing built-up toxins in the body.

  1. 5. IMPROVES APPEARANCE OF CELLULITE

Since the far infrared radiant heat of the Sauna warms three times as deep as conventional saunas, it is significantly more effective at reducing cellulite.

  1. 6. EASE JOINT PAIN AND STIFFNESS

Radiant heat has also been effective in the treatment of sprains, neuralgia, bursitis, muscle spasms, joint stiffness and many other muscular-skeletal ailments. Much of the stiffness, aches and soreness that comes with aging is reduced or eliminated.

  1. 7. STRESS AND FATIGUE REDUCTION

Infrared Saunas have also been shown to affect the autonomic nervous system putting you in the parasympathetic (rest and digest) state allowing your body to heal.

  1. 8. IMPROVES SKIN

The profuse sweating achieved after just a few minutes in your infrared sauna carries off deeply embedded impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin glowing and immaculately clean. Increased circulation draws your skin’s own natural nutrients to the surface.

Directly or indirectly, toxic residues find their way into our air, food and water supplies. The net effect of this ecological overload is to alter the body’s balance or “homeostasis”. This interference with our natural biological tendencies to restore internal balance results in “disease” in one form or another. According to Professor Edward J. Calabrese of the University of Massachusetts, and author of Pollutants and high-risk groups, “It is this homeostatic process which neutralizes the pollutant’s effect and returns the system to equilibrium.”

Health depends on the balance of both external and internal environmental forces.

Why Use Infrared Sauna

Infrared saunas enhance white blood cell function, thereby increasing immune response and elimination of foreign pathogens and cellular waste products.

It also removes accumulated toxins by improving lymph circulation. A 30-minute infrared sauna session causes a temporary 3 degree increase in a bodies temperature. This increase has shown to stimulate the white blood cells.

There is a wealth of literature documenting illnesses caused in humans from exposure to chemicals.

These illnesses include cancers of virtually every organ system of the body, as well as leukaemia, liver disease, pulmonary damage, anaemia and blood changes, nervous system disease, immune system damage, psychological damage, reproductive and fertility impairment, and kidney dysfunction.

There are also many sub-clinical abnormalities that are suspected to result from presumed chemical exposure and the list grows longer each year.

In response to the above facts, many health care practitioners have been recommending a vast array of detoxification programs.

Barbara B. Powers

“I have been a user of infrared sauna for over 20 years.  First to assist with my metal detox that had invaded my body and later on simply as maintenance as I live in a highly polluted city.  There is a great therapeutic difference between the steam sauna and the infrared sauna, in that the steam sauna heats your body from the outside without penetrating your skin as the infrared sauna does, therefore activating thorough and real detoxification.  I have a personal infrared sauna at home.

At the request of Dr. Oscar Gonzalez, who heads the medical department of AMAYAL www.amayal.com we installed an infrared unit in our SAMA Spa in Amayal to assist not only his patients with autism, but those with heavy metal toxicity and obesity.
